Tamenglong, Chandel district headquarters declared containment zones
District headquarters of Chandel and Tamenglong have been declared containment zones.
Areas in district headquarters of Tamenglong and Chandel have been declared COVID-19 containment zones. While Ward No I-V areas of Tamenglong district headquarter was declared containment zone on Wednesday, Chandel district additional magistrate Ksh Siddharth on Thursday declared Chandel district headquarters, Japhou Bazaar and its adjoining areas as containment zones. The order will come into effect from 3 pm of May 14 and continue for the next eight days i.e. until 24 hours of May 22 or until further orders, whichever is earlier, stated the order signed by the additional district magistrate.
The orders stated that the numbers of COVID-19 positive persons have been on the rise over the last three days despite utmost precautionary measures being taken up within the district jurisdiction.
The medical departments found that there is a trend of positive persons being detected, from persons within the market area and other locations of the district even when that person has not travelled out of the district. It has become extremely difficult to do contact tracing of all possible contacts of the positive persons as it includes some of the most crowded areas of the district, the order mentioned.
However, exemption will be given to the following activities such all goods vehicle including essential commodities, oxygen supply related vehicles, LPG and oil tankers, vehicles of essential services like power supply, fire service, water supply, waste and garbage collection, PDS, Telecom, electronic and print media, airport duties and vehicles of other government departments.
Works of both state and national projects carried out within the District will be permitted, it stated.
Home delivery of essential commodities (including supplementary nutrition for children, pregnant and lactating mothers, food items, vegetables, groceries, fish feeds/animal feeds milk products) is allowed. Medical Institutions including pharmacies are also permitted to open, it stated.
People going for Vaccination, COVID-19 testing and those of Child Protection Services are permitted, it mentioned. Health care workers and frontline workers from various departments carrying out COVID-19 related duties as assigned are permitted. Banking services with limited staff from 10 am to 2.30 pm and ATM services as well as vehicles repairing workshops are allowed to open, it added.
Meanwhile in Tamenglong district, COVID-19 active cases surged to 53, excluding three persons from other districts who were transferred to their domiciles on Wednesday. The total COVID-19 positive cases rose to 1,539 and a total of 1,479 cases have recovered till date.
The Tamenglong district Health department felt that for effective contact tracing and thereby breaking the chain of spread of COVID-19, it is inevitable to declare certain areas of the town as Containment Zone, the order stated. Sealing of the geographical area and restriction on the entry and exit of population within the Containment Zone was initiated on Thursday.
However, the district magistrate informed that all those desiring to take vaccination can avail the bus service plying from lower ground at 9 am onward until further notice.
Exemptions are given to the vehicles carrying essential commodities, works being carried out at the work site (in Situ) without movement of the workers from the designated site, it stated.
Works of both state and national projects carried out within the town area and home delivery of essential commodities (including supplementary nutrition for children, pregnant and lactating mothers, food items, vegetables, groceries, fish feeds/animal feeds and milk products), medical institutions including pharmacies are exempted, it added.
