Manipur Fishery Minister Sorokhaibam Rajen has urged Chandel District Fishery Farmers’ Development Committee to withdraw its agitation as the committee might have some misunderstanding with the government’s order for re-posting of the district fishery officer.

Through a video clip recorded on Sunday in his residence at Salam, Lamshang assembly constituency, Imphal West district, the minister said that Kh Ibetombi was re-posted as district fishery officer (DFO) for Chandel district as per order directed by the High Court of Guwahati.

He said that the post of DFO should be given to a regular project officer and Ibetombi is the one for the post. Rajen said that Sumpi Pekham Anal, who was the former DFO of Chandel district, is an inspector by post and is not eligible for the post of DFO.

The agitation of the Chandel District Fishery Farmers’ Development Committee should be withdrawn immediately as it could violate the guidelines and restriction of COVID-19 imposed by the state government, he added.

It may be mentioned that the Naga Students’ Union Chandel (NSUC) had cautioned the state government earlier that the union does not appreciate the state government for making frequent transfer orders of any district level officer. Decrying against the re-posting of Kh Ibetombi as DFO of Chandel, NSUC had warned that if any unwanted consequences occur, Ibetombi shall be held responsible.
