Manipur COVID-19 fatalities reach new high

Manipur recorded 579 new COVID-19 positive cases and 15 deaths on Sunday.

Manipur on Sunday recorded the year's highest single-day spike in COVID-19 fatalities with 15 patients succumbing to the viral infection deaths in a span of 24 hours. Of these, seven are from Imphal West alone, while six are from Imphal East and one each from Bishnupur and Kakching, according to the latest update from the state health department.

The death toll reached 476 on Sunday while 579 new COVID-19 positive cases pushed the state's caseload to 35,354.

The new COVID-19 positive cases included 571 from the general population and eight personnel from the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), a release issued by the COVID-19 Common Control Room stated.

Among the new positive cases from the general population 197 were from Imphal West, 191 from Imphal East, 42 from Thoubal, 40 from Churachandpur, 37 from Kakching, 34 from Bishnupur, eight from Kangpokpi, six from Ukhrul, five from Tengnoupal, three each from Kamjong and Noney, two each from Senapati and Tamenglong and one from Chandel, as per the release.

All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, the release stated.

With these new positive cases, the number of COVID-19 active cases reached 4,280 while the state's COVID-19 recovery rate is 86.54 per cent. The cumulative number of recovered cases stood at 30,598, the release stated.

The release further stated that air passengers who travelled to the state on May 7, 2021 by Indigo flights  6E-2615 in rows 8-20 and 6E-6358 in rows 1-4 are to inform the Common Covid Control Room at 1800-345-3818 or respective District Surveillance Officers for further surveillance and necessary testing.

Meanwhile, a total of 1,036 D type oxygen cylinders and 333 B type oxygen cylinders have been made available to different health institutions and health facilities of the state, the release stated.

As per the latest updates, the cumulative number of people who have been vaccinated in the state reached 2,65,921.
