Manipur: Curfew imposed in Ukhrul district amid COVID-19 surge

The curfew has been imposed with immediate effect from Saturday till May 17 until further orders.

Deputy commissioner Ukhrul Joseph Pauline Kamson, in exercise of the power duly conferred upon the district administration and as directed by the state Home department, imposed curfew and prohibited the movement of any persons outside their residences with immediate effect from Saturday till May 17 until further orders.

Ukhrul reported 13 positive cases at the time of filing the report. Any violation of the orders issued will be liable for punishment as per notification no. 16/115(50)2020-H(Covid-19) dated April 20 issued by the Home department, the DC stated.

The sub-divisional magistrates as incident commander along with district police officers are directed to strictly ensure the orders, it added. 

It may be mentioned that the Manipur government on Friday announced curfew in seven districts of the state namely Ukhrul, Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur, Thoubal, Kakching and Churachandpur.

Meanwhile, deputy commissioner Ukhrul had revoked the containment zone it had declared earlier at the following residences of Ningreiwon Haorei, Mayotang zone 3 Ukhrul; M Jacinta, Seipat Zingsho Phungreitang, near UDTWA office; Puimi Zingkhai, Konghang Ngayi Tang, Ukhrul on Saturday as all the family members of the containment zones have been retested and found to be negative.

On Friday, the additional district magistrate Ukhrul district had declared the whole Jessami village as a containment area.
