Manipur State Commission for Women (MSCW) has appealed to the state government to provide medical attention to pregnant women during the pandemic.
Stating that pregnant women are vulnerable to infection, MSCW drew government attention for making arrangements of centres for child delivery and centres for COVID-19 infected pregnant women to all the districts of Manipur.
A statement issued by MSCW chairperson professor Binota Meinam on Monday appealed to the state government to arrange any hospital/Primary Health Centres, any health care centre especially for child delivery and related cases in all the hospitals.
The release added that pregnant women can easily contract the virus during frequent visits at the hospitals for antenatal check-ups and deliveries.
Stating that pregnant women undoubtedly have faced a lot of problems during the pandemic, the release added that arrangements should be made for the women to deliver their babies in hospitals/ centres even if they are undergoing treatment.
The release added that post deliveries arrangements and guidelines should also be set up as transmission of coronavirus through breast milk (close contact between mother and baby) from mother to child is also high.
