A large quantity of tobacco products was seized and burnt on Monday by the Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF), Thoubal District Committee under MSF Affairs on Drug Use Prevention.
MSF said in a statement that trading of harmful tobacco products amid the critical situation of COVID-19 second wave in the state is unfortunate, while the students' federation is organising various awareness and orientation programmes to prevent people from using any kind of intoxicants.
The traders should be more concerned about selling essential commodities rather than selling tobacco products during the pandemic, it added.
Appealing the Meira Paibis and local clubs to join hands in ending the menace of drugs and tobacco business in the state, MSF said that the drive under MSF Affairs on Drug Use Prevention will be continued.
MSF further urged the state government to look into the matter seriously as almost the entire state is becoming dependent on tobacco products.
