Manipur logs year's highest daily COVID-19 positive cases at 140

Manipur's COVID-19 caseload surged to 30,421 and the death toll rose to 385 as two more succumbed to the disease on Sunday.

COVID-19 positive cases in Manipur continued to surge with Sunday recording the highest daily positive cases in 2021. The state recorded 140 more new COVID-19 positive cases, up from Saturday’s record figure of 130, taking the state’s confirmed tally to 30,421. The death toll also rose to 385 with two more COVID-19 deaths, according to the latest update by the state health department.

Sunday's COVID-19 positive tally included eight personnel of the Central Armed Police Force, according to the release from the Common COVID-19 Control Room in Imphal. 

Of the new COVID-19 positive cases under the general category, Imphal West reported 61 new cases, the maximum number in the state in 2021, followed by Imphal East with 45 new cases.  Bishnupur reported nine cases, while eight are from Churachandpur, six from Ukhrul, four from Thoubal, three from Senapati and one each from Tengnoupal, Kangpokpi and Chandel, the release stated.

All necessary medical precautionary measures like containment and contact tracing are in place, Dr Kh Sasheekumar Mangang, Aditional director and spokesperson, Manipur Health Department, stated in the release.

The two COVID-19 deaths hailed from Imphal West, both male, one 51 years of age and the other a 59-year-old man, the release stated.

The state's cumulative number of recoveries reached 29,231 as 38 more people recovered from the disease. The state's recovery rate moved to 96.08 per cent, a dip from Saturday's 96.40 per cent.

The cumulative number of active cases in the state has soared to 845.

Meanwhile, air passengers who travelled to the state on April 20 by Indigo flight 6E-6358 in rows 18-24, and on April 22 by Indigo flight 6E-6181 in rows 20-10 and by Air India flight AI-889 in rows 12-18 have been asked to inform the Common Covid Control Room at 18003453818 or respective District Surveillance Officers (DSO) immediately.

It further stated that a total of 129099 people have been administered COVID-19 vaccine in Manipur.

All persons above 45 years of age are advised to get vaccinated immediately at vaccination centres of RIMS, JNIMS, district hospitals, CHCs, PHCs and selected private hospitals, the release added.
