COVID-19: Assam crosses 5,000 mark with 102 new cases

The number of COVID-19 active cases in Assam stood at 1,928 on Saturday.

Assam's COVID-19 tally has crossed the 5,000 mark after 102 people tested positive for the virus, official sources said.

On Friday, 102 new COVID-19 cases were reported, taking the total number of cases in the state to 5,006, the state Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said.

On the brighter side, the number of recovered cases have surpassed the number of active cases in the state, as per the updates by the health minister.

Sarma said that the over 61 per cent of the total cases have recovered and are back home.

Of the total 5,006 COVID-19 positive cases reported so far in the state, 3,066 patients have recovered from the infection while the number of active cases stood at 1,928. Nine patients succumbed to the virus and three cases migrated to other states.

"Alert ~ 102 new #COVID19+ cases detected. Numbers in the graphic tell the story of tireless work of our doctors and paramedic staff. Over 61% of the total patients are back home. The remaining shall soon go back. Our testing continues," Sarma posted on Twitter late Friday.

Meanwhile, Jalukbari Ayurvedic College in Guwahati has been renovated into a full-fledged 110-bedded COVID-19 hospital. The health minister had on May 23 announced the decision to renovate the college into a full-fledged COVID-19 facility.
