Orientation programme on second wave of COVID-19 held at Manipur University

At least 20 participants, including programme officers from different colleges under Manipur University and volunteers of MU attended the programme.

As COVID-19 second wave hits Manipur, the National Service Scheme cell under Manipur University (MU) on Friday organised an orientation programme on NSS Cum Mitigation of Second Wave of COVID-19 pandemic for programme officials.

MU NSS Cell programme coordinator Maibam Nodiyachand Singh said in a release that tributes were paid to the heroes of the Anglo-Manipur War, 1891 during the one-day programme.

Retired civil servant RK Nimai Singh spoke on ‘Mitigation of Second Wave of Covid-19 Pandemic’ and stressed on the importance of strict adherence to COVID-19 Appropriate Behaviour such as wearing of face masks, the release stated.

Singh highlighted the new strains of the COVID-19 and expressed the view that the disease can be fought scientifically. He also discussed the global, national and regional pattern and importance of COVID-19 vaccination. He then encouraged the participants for early mass vaccination, the release mentioned.

Dipak Kumar, speaking as function chief guest, minutely discussed the History, Philosophy, Objectives, Functions and Organisational Structure of the NSS, it stated.

M Nodiyachand Singh in his function presidential address emphasised the role of a programme officer in the smooth functioning of a NSS Unit and the need for motivating the young volunteers, the release stated. He appealed to all the programme officers to realise their extraordinary quality and potential for shaping a society, it added.

State NSS officer and deputy secretary YAS, Manipur, Md Firoz Khan also attended as the guests of honour.
