Two arrested for illegally giving shelter to Bangladeshi migrant

The two arrested persons were identified as Hafiz Matem, 53, son of (Late) Haji Abdul Samad of Lilong Keithel near Jama Masjid and Md Jalaluddin, 50, son of (Late) Md Nezamuddin of Lilong Uku Mamang.

A team of Thoubal Police Station on Wednesday arrested two individuals who played a major role in giving shelter to a Bangladeshi migrant at Lilong Uku Mamang Leikai area.

The two arrested persons were identified as Hafiz Matem, 53, son of (Late) Haji Abdul Samad of Lilong Keithel near Jama Masjid and Md Jalaluddin, 50, son of (Late) Md Nezamuddin of Lilong Uku Mamang. They were produced before the media persons at SP Ibomcha’s office on Wednesday.

Earlier on Monday, the police team led by OC of Lilong Police Station, inspector Md Riaz Khan assisted by sub-inspector N Sudhir under the supervision of SP of Thoubal, S Ibomcha arrested a Bangladeshi migrant, Mohammed Ramjan Ali, 34, son of  Md Jalaluddin of Chapainawabganj district, Bangladesh. He was arrested on charge of holding an invalid passport.

While talking to the media persons, S Ibomcha said that Hafiz Matem and Md Jalaluddin were arrested on Wednesday after Md Ramjan’s disclosure during police interrogation. The two individuals had helped Md Ramjan despite knowing that he does not possess a valid passport. The SP informed that the state police have set up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to nab illegal migrants who are staying in the state. He further told the media that Ramjan Ali has an illegal Aadhaar card and his team has seized his invalid passport and other documents. Another illegal migrant from Bangladesh, by the name Md Kheirul, 35, son of (Late) Nurul Islam is still at large, he added.
