Manipur Panchayat Parishad members continue protest for MGNREGS funds, block roads

The Panchayat members were reportedly carrying out the road blockade on Wednesday in the name of calling a bandh without taking prior permission of concerned district authorities, causing much inconveniences to the public and all commuters.

Amid the serious public concern over the recent surge in COVID-19 positive cases in the state and the chaotic situation in other parts of the country due to shortages of COVID-19 medicines, vaccines, oxygen, beds in hospitals, a large number of Manipur Panchayat Parishad members, demanding MGNREGS funds, continued with their protest on Wednesday.

After holding a massive rally and sit-in protest with a large gathering of members, failing to comply with the government direction to strictly follow Covid rules on Tuesday, the Panchayat members on Wednesday went about conducting road blockades at several parts of the valley areas, demanding the release of MGNREGS funds.

The Panchayat members were reportedly carrying out the road blockade in the name of calling a bandh without taking prior permission of concerned district authorities, causing much inconveniences to the public and all commuters.

Manipur Panchayat Parishad protest

Hundreds of Panchayat Parishad members in Manipur have been conducting sit-in protest, demanding the release of MGNREGS funds and airing their grievances, in front of the DC Offiee at Porompat, Imphal East, since April 17.
