Earlier, the OBC board chairman seat is always provided to Meitei Manipuri, but the present BJP government of Assam has defied the indigenous Manipuri of Assam and tried to eliminate from the seat, which seems to be openly challenging the community, said a release.

"For hurting the sentiment of Manipuri of Assam by the present BJP government, we are ready to give a befitting reply in the upcoming assembly election,” it said.

In the state of Assam, Cachar district is the place where Meitei Manipuris are settled collectively, but the government has ignored them and tried to confiscate their democratic rights and Cachar district is the place where Manipuri OBCs are in large numbers, it added.

MYFA President Seram Herajit said the Meitei Manipuris were also left from the OBCs benefits for which MYFA will file an RTI to know the proper work process of OBC board, the release said.

Further it said, Manipuri community has already been included in the OBC list of the state and central government, and above this there is not a single Manipuri MLA or MP in Assam. Being a largest OBC majority in Cachar district the chairman seat of OBC board should be provided to Meitei Manipuri as in other districts where chairman seats of OBC board are provided to other communities, it added.

The association also cautioned that if the government fails to provide the seat, a democratic movement against the government will be launched.
