The Lamlai Mapari Thougal Lup (LMTL) has submitted a memorandum to the state chief minister to restore the Agriculture office, Minor Irrigation office, FCS Godown, Veterinary office and SDO, SDC, BDO offices at Sawombung block.

In view of the hardship faced by the locals of Lamlai and Sawombung area in Imphal East, the Lamlai Mapari Thougal Lup (LMTL) has appealed to the state chief minister to restore the Agriculture office, Minor Irrigation office, FCS Godown, Veterinary office and SDO, SDC, BDO offices at Sawombung block. It said that a memorandum on the demand has been submitted to Chief Minister N Biren on Saturday.

Addressing a press conference on Saturday at Manipur Press Club, Imphal, LMTL general secretary L Bobysana said that due to the law and order situation, many offices in Sawombung block and region were shifted and started functioning at the SIRD complex, Porompat since the last 10 years.

Bobysana said that due to non-functioning of offices like SDO in the Sawombung block, the peoples have to travel long distance till Porompat to get a simple document like income certificate.

As the law and order situation is improving all over the state and moreover police station and SDPO office have been opened at Sawombung, there will be no issue to restore the offices of SDO, SDC and BDO at Sawombung for the people of Lamlai to access proper services of such offices, he added.

The general secretary also pointed out that the non-functioning of the Agriculture office at Napet Palli, the farmers of the Lamlai area have lack of awareness in connection with the agriculture sectors and hindrances in the field of agriculture.

Moreover the agricultural subsidies are also not properly distributed to the farmers of Lamlai assembly constituency, he added.

It is now high time to reconsider the stand of the government to review such decision and direct the authority concerned to restore defunct offices at the Sawombung and Lamlai areas with full occupancy so as to enable the people of Lamlai and its people to access the benefits of such offices easily, Bobysana further said.

The general secretary said, “The good governance aims towards betterment and welfare of people, and this cannot take place without providing better services of government institutes and offices.”

The restoration of the offices will enable the public to get proper benefits of government services and ensure social upliftment to the people of Lamlai, he added.
