Nagaland government tightens strict enforcement of SOP amid surge in COVID-19

Public gatherings are limited to 50 per cent of seating capacity with strict adherence to COVID-19 Appropriate Behavior.

In view of the rapid surge in COVID-19 cases in the country, and the need for taking immediate measures for preventing the spread of COVID-19 in the state, the Nagaland government has ordered strict implementation of the new Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in Nagaland with immediate effect.

Public gatherings limited to 50 per cent of seating capacity

One of the revised SOPs said that social/academic/entertainment/cultural/political/ religious functions and gatherings are permitted outside the containment zones, but limited to 50 per cent of the seating capacity, or 200 persons, whichever is lower, and with wearing of face masks, maintaining social distancing, provision of thermal screening and use of hand wash or sanitizer, being mandatory.

Limit of gatherings in open spaces

In open spaces, the upper limit on the gathering shall be 50 per cent of the seating capacity wherever there are seating galleries, and in other cases, the limit on the gatherings will be decided by the size of the ground/venue, and the requirement of strict adherence to social distancing; with wearing of face masks, provision of thermal screening and hand wash or sanitizer, being also mandatory.

Prior permission of District Task Force (DTF) for events mandatory

In any public gathering, festivities of any kind shall be kept at the bare minimum, and in case the number of persons in the gathering in open spaces is more than 200, prior permission of the concerned District Task Force (DTF) shall be taken which may, depending upon the local conditions, impose additional restrictions.

In religious places or places of religious worship

In religious places or places of religious worship also, the upper limit on gatherings/congregations shall be 50% of the seating capacity or 200 persons, whichever is lower, and subject to strict adherence to all the provisions of this office order of even number dated 10/06/2020 for preventing the spread of COVID-19, particularly the provisions requiring adherence to COVID-19 behaviours like wearing of face masks, maintaining social distancing and regular hand sanitization etc.

Intra-district sports events shall require prior permission

Any intra-district sports events shall require prior permission from the respective DTF, which shall ensure strict adherence by all concerned of all the provisions of the SOP for holding of sporting events for preventing the spread of COVID-19 issued vide order no. GAB-l/COM/GEN-4/2020 dated 05/03/2021, and further depending upon the local conditions, may also impose additional restrictions. In case of bigger, or inter-district sports events, the requisite permission and necessary directions shall be given by the Home department.

Opening of Entertainment places permitted outside containment zones

Theatres / multiplexes / cinema halls are permitted to open outside the containment zones, "with up to 50% of the seating capacity subject to strict adherence to the provisions of SOP issued by the office order of even number dated 19/03/2021".
