National Safe Motherhood Day observed in Thoubal

The Community Health Centre, Heirok observed the National Safe Motherhood Day along with launching of Gestational Diabetes Mellitus Screening for Pregnant Women at Thoubal under the aegis of the District Health Society Thoubal on Sunday.

The theme of the observance was 'Educate, Acknowledge and Focus on the Problem of Diseases and Claiming Solution and Precaution for Them'.

The inaugural function was attended by CMO of Thoubal, Dr Y Nokul Singh; district programme manager of DHS, Thoubal, Ch Basanta; and MO in-charge of CHC Heirok, Th Ramananda Singh as chief guest, guest of honour and president respectively.

During the programme, Dr Y Nokul highlighted on the services provided by the National Health Mission like Pradhan Mantri Surakshit Matritva Abhiyan, Janani Suraksha Yojana and JSSK programmes especially for pregnant women.

Ch Basanta Singh mentioned about the importance of regular Ante Netal Check-Up by the pregnant women, regular exercise, having balance diet and about the Pradhan Mantri Matru Vandana Yojana (PMMVY) Scheme of Social Welfare department which provides cash incentive of Rs 6000 for the pregnant women.

As a resource person, supervisor of ICDS Project Thoubal, L Surnalata Devi delivered her speech on nutritional supplements and dietary foods for pregnant women and also mentioned about the energy giving foods, protein rich food and other food items which are easily available in local markets.

Dr Th Ramananda Singh explained about the Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) in Pregnant Women. He said that GDM screening is to know about the future diabetes complication and risk factor in pregnant mother. The complications like heart disease, abnormal child birth, still birth may occur if not diagnose in time, he added.

As a part of the programme ANC check-up, free diagnostic services were conducted at the spot. Balanced diet foods and free drugs were also given to the pregnant women. Altogether 32 pregnant women were benefited from the programme and four pregnant women were registered for PMMVY scheme.

Similar programmes were also held at Health and Wellness Centre, Haokha and Wangkhem. It was attended by MO of CHC Yairpok, Dr M Rakesh, supervisor of ICDS Project Thoubal, Th Ashalata Devi and H Karnajit of Huidrom Leikai Youth Club as dignitaries on the dais.

Altogether 24 ANC check-ups were done and three PWs were registered for PMMVY scheme at the spot.
