India logs highest single-day spike of 1,31,968 new COVID-19 positive cases

The nationwide tally has now reached 1,30,60,542 COVID-19 confirmed cases of the 25,40,41,584 samples tested for COVID-19 so far.

India registered 1,31,968 new COVID-19 cases, the highest spike recorded in a single day spike, according to the latest report from the Union Health Ministry.

With the new positive cases, the nationwide tally has now reached 1,30,60,542 COVID-19 confirmed cases of the 25,40,41,584 samples tested for COVID-19 so far. As many as 13,64,205 samples were tested on Thursday, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research.

The number of active COVID-19 cases rose to 9,79,608 in total, as per the 8 am update on Friday.

The country also recorded highest single-day case fatalities of 780 since October 18. With it, the death toll rose to 1,67,642. The new COVID-19 related deaths included 376 from Maharashtra, 94 from Chhattisgarh, 56 from Punjab, 39 from Uttar Pradesh, 36 from Karnataka, 35 from Gujarat, 27 from Madhya Pradesh, 24 from Delhi, 19 from Tamil Nadu, 18 from Kerala and 11 from Haryana.

Of the total 1,67,642 COVID-19 deaths reported so far, 57,028 fatalities are from Maharashtra, 12,840 from Tamil Nadu, 12,767 from Karnataka, 11,157 from Delhi, 10,370 from West Bengal, 9,003 from Uttar Pradesh, 7,334 from Punjab and 7,268 from Andhra Pradesh.

As the new cases soared, the recovery rate in the country has dropped to 91.22 per cent though the number of people who have recovered from the disease surged to 1,19,13,292.
