Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh on Thursday announced that a mass vaccination campaign will be conducted in the state from April 11-14, and said facilities for vaccination would be made available to all health care units, including private hospitals during the campaign.
CM Biren made the announcement after attending an online meeting on the prevailing COVID-19 situation in the country with the Prime Minister and chief ministers of all other states.
Mentioning that the percentage of vaccination in the state for individuals above 60 years of age is very low with only about 2,000 individuals getting vaccinated out of around 6 lakh so far, N Biren made a mass appeal for people eligible for vaccination to get vaccinated during the campaign in order to prevent a second wave of the pandemic.
The chief minister also raised concern over the alarming rate of positive cases in some states, and stressed on the need for 100 per cent vaccination of healthcare workers and frontline workers as they are the ones rendering services to contain the pandemic.
Maintaining that the government had been taking up necessary measures to curb the spread of COVID-19, CM Biren urged the public to strictly adhere to the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and to observe COVID appropriate behaviours. He also asked the people to come up for timely testing if they observe any symptoms stating that prevention is the most effective way to successfully fight the pandemic.
The CM further made an appeal to the state police and other frontline workers to perform their duties sincerely while enforcing the SOPs.
