The newly formed alliance led by the Congress party will move a no confidence motion for removal of Yumnam Khemchand as Manipur Legislative Assembly Speaker, veteran Congress leader O Joy said on Thursday.
O Joy stated at a press conference in Imphal that the motion for removal of the speaker was necessitated as he has “conducted himself in a manner unbecoming of the Speaker of the Assembly”. It was alleged that the acts of the speaker in recent times were “unconstitutional and illegal”.
Terming the political developments in Manipur the beginning of the downfall of BJP’s rule in India, the Congress party has exuded confidence that the party will lead in the formation of the next government in Manipur.
Lauding the nine ministers and MLAs who left the BJP-led government, O Joy said these MLAs and ministers resigned as they felt that they were unable to function to their fullest ability. He also severely criticized the freewheeling style of the BJP-led government who could divest ministers of their portfolios on its whims and fancies. He pointed out the case of Y Joykumar who was the deputy chief minister and termed it “totally undemocratic”.
On Wednesday, four National People’s Party (NPP) members and two independent MLAs announced their support to the Congress party and three BJP MLAs joined the Congress party.
