SPF seeks special Assembly session to adopt resolution on no-confidence motion against government in Manipur

The Secular Progressive Front led by the Congress party on Thursday submitted a memorandum to Governor Najma Heptulla, seeking a special assembly session to adopt a resolution on a no-confidence motion against the N Biren Singh-led BJP government.

The newly formed alliance in Manipur, Secular Progressive Front, led by the Congress party on Thursday submitted a memorandum requesting Governor Najma Heptulla to convene a special assembly session to adopt a resolution on a no-confidence motion against the N Biren Singh-led BJP government.

"We have come here to submit a memorandum addressed to the governor to convene a special assembly session to adopt a resolution on a no-confidence motion against the BJP-led government," said senior Congress leader Dr Chaltonlien Amo speaking to reporters outside the governor's bungalow on Thursday.

On Wednesday, the state government witnessed a political upheaval as three BJP MLAs - Henglep MLA TT Haokip, Naoriya Pakhanglakpa MLA S Subaschandra Singh and Tamenglong MLA Samuel Jendai -resigned from the party to join the Congress and six MLAs withdrew their support.

Soon after the development, with nine MLAs in their favour, O Ibobi Singh, who is also the leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP), said the Congress government is hoping to form the new government in the state.
