A day after the country reported over 1 lakh COVID-19 cases, India's highest ever single-day spike, the Delhi government on Tuesday imposed night curfew from 10pm-5am till April 30 with immediate effect.
“There shall be night curfew on movement of individuals (except for exemptions in para-4) in NCT of Delhi with immediate effect from 10.00 p.m. to 05.00 a.m. till 30.04.2021 or further orders, whichever is earlier,” the Delhi government said in an order.
However, passengers traveling to and from the airport, railway stations, and bus stands will be allowed to travel after showing valid tickets. Pregnant women and patients going for treatment will also exempted from the curfew rules.
"People who want to get Covid-19 vaccination will be exempted but will have to get an e-pass. Shopkeepers selling essential goods like groceries, fruits, vegetables, milk, and medicine will be allowed to move after getting an e-pass. Print and electronic media will also be allowed to move only through e-pass," the order stated.
It further stated that private doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff with valid ID card will also be exempted from the curfew rules.
"Public transport such as buses, Delhi Metro, autos, and taxis will be allowed to function within its stipulated time for the transportation of only specified categories of people during night curfew," the order added.
On Monday, Delhi reported 3,548 new COVID-19 cases, 2,936 recoveries, and 15 COVID-19 related deaths.
