The United Front Manipur (UFM) reminded the BJP-led government that there is need of amending the Article 2 and 3 of the Indian Constitution and insert a special clause to safeguard the territorial integrity of Manipur.

In the Indian Constitution, there is not a single Article or schedule which can give guarantee to protect the territorial integrity of the state, said UFM chairman Sapam Samungou while speaking to the media on Thursday at Manipur Press Club, Imphal.

Samungou explained that Article 2 has the provision of forming a new state and Article 3 has the provision of rectifying the territorial boundary of a state.

Not a single political party was able to save Jammu and Kashmir from being divided into two union territories (Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh), he  recalled.

The chairman also alleged that the BJP-led government is not respecting the Rights to Freedom of Speech and Expression. The government is always trying to frame charges against anyone who speaks against it, he added.

Asserting that development can be brought in the state only when the leaders follow the provision laid down by the Indian Constitution, Samungou appealed to the BJP-led government to respect the Constitution of India and the public to follow the fundamental duties to make a better Manipur.
