The government’s move to rule out the use of any existing Chinese products comes after the killing of 20 Indian soldiers in a violent clash between the Indian and Chinese troops at the LAC in Galwan Valley in Eastern Ladakh on Monday night. Following the incident, many have started calling for boycott of Chinese equipment and apps.

The government service providers have been asked to change tender process to ban participation by Chinese companies and cancel all previous tenders for telecom equipment involving Chinese companies.

In the effort, the Swadeshi Jagran Manch has demanded the cancellation of the lowest bid made by China's Shanghai Tunnel Engineering Co Ltd for the construction of an underground stretch of the Delhi-Meerut Regional Rapid Transit System project.

The Telecom Ministry has asked all telecom companies to avoid Chinese equipment in upgradation and said that directives for ban on new purchase of Chinese products will be issued for private mobile service providers. The Confederation of All India Traders (CAIT) has also called for boycott of Chinese goods, according to reports.

It may be noted that India has the second highest telecommunication network in the world.
