The memorial tombstone of the 'Father of Thangkhal Tribe' (L) Thangkhanlam Thangngeo was unveiled on Friday by Pastor Jangkholun Mate at Teikot village.
(L) Thangkhanlam Thangngeo was the founder and chief till his demise on April 6, 2010 and was buried in his village which is under Singat sub division.
The late leader of Thangkhal tribe and Zomis was involved in numerous capacities in his lifetime. particularly in the Zomi movement where he served as vice president of Zomi Council and general secretary and president of Thangkhal People Organisation where he was credited with leading the Thangkhal tribes to Zomi Council in 2007.
He was survived by his wife, one son, four daughters and three grandchildren who all were present at the occasion today.
The programme was also attended by chairman of MANERADA and MLA of Singat Ginsuanhau Zou; ex MDCs led by ex ADCC chairman Lankhanpau Guite, president of Zomi frontal organisations and different chief of the area who place wreath in respect to the late leader's tombstone.
On the occasion, a big traditional feast was organised for the whole village and participants.
The MLA of Singat promised to build the village playground at the cost of Rs 5 Lakh in remembrance of the late chief and leaders of Thangkhal and Zomis, calling him the agent of Zomis brotherhood which was echoed by ex MDCs in their speech.
