A one-day awareness programme on constitutionally mandated rights for scheduled tribes in Manipur under the theme of ‘Tribals in the changing society’ was held on Friday at Indoor Stadium Tamenglong district headquarters.

The event was organised by the Manipur State for the scheduled Tribes (MSCST) in collaboration with the Rongmei Naga Council Manipur.

Speaking as resource person, senior advocate High Court, Daniel Ramsan presented a lengthy speech on ‘Constitutionally Mandated Rights for Schedule Tribes’ with special reference to Manipur state.

Peter Khrasi, in his keynote address asserted that the government has appointed him to look into the grievances of scheduled tribes in Manipur. Knowing grievances is not enough, but interaction with different people and providing awareness can solve most of the grievances faced by scheduled tribes.

The government of India has granted many rights for the tribal people or the scheduled tribes in order to help and protect the weaker communities suffering from extreme social, political and economic problems, he said.

Judicial member MSCST Lungthaona Rongmei and administration member MSCST Tara Manchin Hangzo also attended the event and presented speeches on the occasion.
