All private vehicles that are illegally plying as local taxis within Kohima will be banned with immediate effect, Regional Transport Authority (RTA) Kohima said.

Regional transport officer Kohima, SY Sanglee Chang stated in a release that the decision was taken at the RTA Kohima meeting held on March 23, 2021.

The meeting decided that enforcing agencies, police and MV enforcement would penalise those illegal taxis found plying as per provisions of the Motor Vehicle (MV) Act.

It was also decided that the fares of city bus, local, regional taxi and two-wheeler taxi would remain the same pre-Covid 19 tariffs. The proposed city bus fare would be reviewed in the next RTA meeting, it stated.
