Bharat bandh called by farmers unions on Friday drew mixed response. While road transport and metro services in New Delhi functioned as usual, train services were affected at 32 locations and four Shatabdi trains were cancelled, the Indian Railways said.

The farmers unions have been protesting against the three contentious farm laws introduced by the present government.

Reports said that protesters squatted on railway tracks leading to disruption of rail traffic across 32 locations in Delhi, Punjab and Haryana.

Besides the cancellation of the four Shatabdi trains, 31 other trains were halted due to the protests, the reports said.

However, in Delhi, metro trains and road transport services remained unaffected. Major markets in the capital also remained open, the reports added.

The Bharat Bandh was organised by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha, an umbrella body of 40 Farmers’ Unions, on Friday from 6 am to 6 pm, demanding the repeal of the three contentious farm laws and a legal guarantee on the minimum support price (MSP) for their crops.
