The number of COVID-19 positive cases in Manipur has surpassed the 500 mark with 52 new cases, 32 males and 20 females, reported in the last 24 hours, official sources said.
Manipur's tally is now 552. Of them, 360 cases are active.
Of the new cases, Ukhrul district reported the maximum number of cases with 20, followed by Bishnupur district with 10 cases and Thoubal district with six cases. Chandel, Kakching and Kangpokpi districts reported four cases each. While Imphal West reported two cases, one case each were reported from Churachandpur and Kamjong, health department spokesperson and additional director Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang ssaid in a release.
The spokesperson said that the new cases were confirmed at the VRDLs of RIMS and JNIMS in Imphal.
On Wednesday, 33 more persons were discharged from RIMS after they were found COVID-19 free on RT PCR Test, taking the total number of recovered cases in the state to 192. The recovery rate is 34.78, Dr Mangang stated.
Meanwhile, the state health department said that five RT PCR machines, two in RIMS and three in JNIMS, are now working at the VRDLs of the two hospitals. Moreover, three Truenat machines, one in JNIMS and two in RIMS are also now used for COVID-19 testing, it stated.
The health department further stated that the backlogs in the two VRDLs would be cleared soon.
The testing average is about 1,200 per day. At this rate, the backlogs in the two VRDLs are likely to be cleared soon, the state health department added.
