Bishnupur District Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign Committee on Sunday took out a demonstration in which torch bearing locals sailed around 20 fishing boats from dusk to late night, across phumdee huts that floated around Thanga Ngaram area at Loktak Lake.

The small flotilla of local, traditional boats carried out the ‘torch march on boats’ giving a cultural wave and momentum to the ongoing campaign on drugs. It was led by a Langdel drummer and a Pena artiste who sung folk songs continuously in their traditional attires.

Alerting the fishing community about the onslaught of drugs menace which silently victimizes the people, the demonstrators appealed to take pledge in keeping the Loktak Lake free from drugs.

Around 50 locals, women, men and children took part in the two-hour long cultural-based campaign called ‘Loktak Night Vigil on Boats, for a drug free Bishnupur District’.

Posters and IEC materials were also distributed to the fishing community, during the campaign.
