Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi's silence over the violent faceoff between the Indian and Chinese troops at Galwan Valley in Ladakh that claimed the lives of 20 Indian soldiers on Monday night.
The Congress leader said that the country needs to know what happened.
"Why is the PM silent? Why is he hiding? Enough is enough. We need to know what has happened. How dare China kill our soldiers? How dare they take our land?" Rahul Gandhi tweeted on Wednesday morning.
Twenty Indian Army personnel, including a commanding officer, were killed in the clashes with the Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley, in the border areas of Ladakh, J-K, on Monday night which happened as a result of an attempt by the Chinese side to unilaterally change the status quo on the border, the Army had said.
Following the clash, PM Modi met Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah and officials twice on Tuesday to review the situation. The prime minister is yet to issue a statement on the violent faceoff that left 20 Indian soldiers dead.
Monday's clash was the first violent faceoff on the India-China border in which casualties have been reported since 1975. In 1975, four Assam Rifles troopers were ambushed by the Chinese soldiers on the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Arunachal Pradesh.
