ESU Wangkhei held on UPAA Kiyamgei by 1-1 goals to share a point each in the opening match of the Maharajkumar Ghanendrajit Memorial Super Division Football League Tournament 2021, played at XI Star Sporting Union Ground. Imphal East.
ESU Wangkhei caught its opponent by surprise when P Naoba Singh netted home the opening goal in the 7 minute of play. UPAA Kiyamgei, which is a force to reckon with, explored high and low for the equaliser and got it when Th Vandona snaked through the defence to bang home in the 25 minute to level 1-1 goals.
The second half failed to ignite the sparks as both teams failed to consolidate the scoreline and had to settle for the drawn result.
The tournament was opened by retired IAS officer, RK Nimai Singh along with officials of Imphal East District Football Association.
It may be mentioned that six teams are participating in the league including ESU Wangkhei, PYA Kairang, USA Khurai, XI Star Sporting Union Akhampat, SAK Yumnam Khunou and UPAA Kiyamgei.
