44 AR organises 'Swasthya ka Amrit' wellness camp in Tamenglong

The wellness camp is especially aimed at providing medical care to the expecting mothers, new mothers and their children.

44 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 22 Sector Assam Rifles IGAR (E) organised ‘Swasthya ka Amrit’ wellness camp at Kahulong village, some 17 km from Tamenglong district headquarters on Saturday.

The camp was held as part of the celebration for 75 years of India’s Independence which started with the Central Government launching ‘Bharat Ka Amrut Mahotsav’.

The camp commenced with CMO, Tamenglong Dr Chambo Gonmei and CMO, 44 Assam Rifles Dr Sha cutting the red ribbons and lighting a lamp to start the health camp at Kahulong village.

A joint team of eight civil-military doctors and another five doctors from JNIMS, Raj Medicity and other government hospitals which included physicians, gynecologists, pediatricians, ENT specialists and nurses was also present.

Speaking on the occasion through video conference, commandant 44 Assam Rifles, colonel Pradeep Kumar said, “ Taking the Independence celebrations to Hills of Manipur, the unit kick started its efforts with a wellness camp named 'Swasthya ka Amrit' at Kahulong village of today.”

The wellness camp is especially aimed at providing medical care to the expecting mothers, new mothers and their children. During the 75-week long period, the unit will organise a series of events to improve the health condition of the people of Tamenglong, he said. 

Mentioning that medical camps are conducted by health professionals to carry out limited health interventions amongst the underprivileged community and access to appropriate health check-up is vital for healthy mental and physical development, he further thanked all the mothers of the society for their immense roles and sacrifices for their family and stated that there is nothing more noble or tougher job than home-making.

Urging all women of Tamenglong to come forward in all fields to match shoulders with men and calling upon men to nurture the dreams and aspirations of the ladies of the family, Pradeep Kumar stressed the role of a healthy mother in upbringing a healthy family.

The commandant reiterated that “These 75 weeks celebration shall include more healthcare camps, medical camps, fitness lectures,  yoga demonstrations, sports events, construction of sports fields, distribution of sports equipment, water conservation drive, plantation drives, career counseling and guidance for youth and  various other activities reaching out to all citizens in remote areas of Tamenglong.”  

These initiatives are aimed at improving healthcare services in the region and at the same time to increase the awareness among the people about health, fitness as well as the policies and facilities of the government, he continued mentioning that apart from free health check- up, providing free medicines, blood investigation facility and immunization room for children was also setup for the benefit of the local populace.

It will culminate with the celebration of 75th Independence Day of India, he added.

Similar wellness camp was also conducted jointly with Red Cross volunteers at Chalwa village in T Waichung sub division of Kangpokpi district.
