The Horticulture and Soil Conservation department on Saturday organised a ‘Distribution of Water Pump Set, Drip and Sprinkler Irrigation Systems cum Training Programme of Micro Irrigation’ under Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchayee Yojana (PMKSY) at the loan of its office located at Tinubuang.

The programme was attended by Minister of TA and Hills Vungzagin Valte as chief guest and MLA of Singhat Ginsuanhau Zou a guest of honour, along with DC of Churachandpur, Pawan Yadav and DC of Pherzawl, Mannuamching.

During the programme, 46 water pumps, drip and irrigation systems were delivered to the beneficiaries from Churachandpur district and 39 of the same items to Pherzawl district.

Vungzagin Valte said that under the leadership of the PM of India and state CM, they are able to materialise the needs of the farmers. He also said that the kind of programme is much necessary as irrigation and plantation of vegetables are needed for sustenance as the prices of vegetables increase consistently.

Pawan Yadav said that the government’s initiative is highly appreciable as now farmers can get direct benefit through PMKSY and can be an alternative to poppy plantation. The economy of the district and country as a whole was hit hard by COVID-19 pandemic, however it can be revived as farmers can now resort to multiple cropping and grow cash crops like pineapple through the machinery and system provided, he added.

Mannuamching also exhorted the beneficiaries to utilise the machines to its potential for larger productivity.
