Woman found dead near river under suspicious circumstances

A meeting was held in connection with the alleged killing and a JAC was formed by the locals.

A woman was found dead under suspicious circumstances on Monday near Tharoirok River, Laithel Maning at Kwakta, under the jurisdiction of Moirang Police Station in Manipur. 

According to sources, the deceased has been identified as Malika Begum, 21, daughter of (Late) MV Nijamuddin of Kwakta Municipal Council Ward No 7. It is suspected that Malika’s boyfriend, Anish, who is from Kwakta Municipal Council Ward No.1, Terakhongshangbi, is allegedly responsible for the death.

A few days ago, Anish had eloped with Malika and they were separated after the families of the two mutually agreed to fix a date for the wedding. On the previous evening of the incident of the death, they were also seen together on the road of their locality by the locals of the area, the source added.

Meanwhile, family members of Malika and locals stormed the residence of Anish and destroyed few properties, however, Anish was not in his house. A team of Bishnupur District Police led by SP Priyadarshini Laishram reached the spot immediately and controlled the mob. Later, the body of the deceased woman was taken to RIMS morgue and a case was registered at the police station.

Late Monday, a meeting was held in connection with the alleged killing and a JAC was formed by the locals.
