‘Kapkhairamdai’ marks 91st foundation day of Manipur Dramatic Union celebration

The 91st foundation day of Manipur’s oldest theatre group Manipur Dramatic Union (MDU) was celebrated by showcasing its production ‘Kapkhairamdai’ on Monday.

However, no formal function was organised in connection with the foundation day and only the play was showcased to the public. MDU was set up on March 15, 1931.

‘Kapkhairamdai’ is a play written by noted Manipuri writer Elangbam Dinamani and directed by Athokpam Kholchandra.

The play, intertwined with the Manipuri myth of ‘Numit Kappa’, is a reflection of the Manipuri society wherein many self-centric people have become self-styled leaders.

It nevertheless tries to proclaim that there are still some people who are sincere and courageous in performing their duties for the welfare of the people.
