253 beds ready at UNACCO Covid Care Centre: Minister Jayantakumar

Additional 47 beds will be added soon to raise the number of beds to 300, the health minister said on Tuesday.

As many as 253 beds are ready for utilisation at UNACCO COVID Care Centre and additional 47 beds will be added to increase the total capacity to 300 beds at the centre, Health Minister L Jayantakumar Singh said in Imphal on Tuesday.

As many as 75 COVID-19 patients have been admitted till morning at the centre, he added.

The minister said that the government had initially planned UNACCO COVID Care Centre to be a 100 bedded care centre. However, due to the rise in the number of COVID-19 cases in the state, the government took the decision to increase the capacity to 300 beds.

The minister was speaking at a function for Ambulance distribution held at the Medical Directorate Office, Lamphelpat today. He said that two more ambulances had been procured by the National Health Mission, Manipur to meet the present requirement. One will be used at CMO office, Bishnupur while the other will be utilised at Medical Directorate, Lamphelpat, he added.

Jayantakumar also distributed five Mahindra Bolero SUV cars, one each for Pherzawl, Jiribam, Noney, Tengnoupal and Kakching in a function held at the directorate in the afternoon.

The SUV cars were handed over to concern chief medical officers concerned. The minister said that the increasing need of transport vehicles for transporting people who have returned back to the State during the pandemic juncture is well understood by state government and added that the transport vehicles have also been given to other districts on priority basis.

Jayantakumar also appealed to the public to stay calm during this pandemic juncture as the government is putting all effort to provide the necessities of the people and also to contain the pandemic.

The occasion was also attended by director, Health Services Dr K Rajo Singh, additional directors and officials of Health department and NHM, Manipur.
