According to an MMOF release, the government may consider relaxing the lockdown due to Eid. “But, we request the Manipur government to impose public curfew for at least two-three days” in order to contain the COVID-19 outbreak, it said, adding that MMOF is agonised with the increasing number of  positive cases since stranded people started entering the state via train and private vehicles.

Stating keen interest in endorsing the CM’s slogan “Let people live first, celebrations and others can take place later”, the MMOF said, “Eid-ul-Fitr this year is going to be celebrated in self-isolation, which seems to go against the spirit of Eid. Around the world, Eid is a holiday celebrated with the community, from praying together in the Masjid or Idgah to visiting our extended family to giving Zakat al-Fitr to the needy.

“However, we can still share the blessings of Eid from the safety of our homes, while upholding our community spirit and spending time with family,” it stated in the release.

The MMOF said that though one cannot leave the house, one can dress up, decorate the house and plan fun activities for the kids.

“If the past few weeks have taught us anything, it’s that we don’t need as much as we think we do and it’s possible to have a fun and meaningful time at home, with limited resources, and create beautiful memories,” the MMOF said, pointing out that one can still uphold the community spirit of Eid in self-isolation.
