The 44 Assam Rifles under the aegis of 22 Sector of IGAR (East) on Monday observed Zero Discrimination Day to promote equality and practice before law at Azuram, Gelnel and Dikiuram villages of Tamenglong.
The statement issued by 44 Assam Rifles major D Singh Gusain stated that prominence was given on no discrimination based on tribes and sub-tribes, as equality and unity is necessary for progress of all.
The observance marked the campaign with various activities to celebrate one's right to live life with dignity and honour, regardless of their age, sex, religion, caste, colour, nationality, height, weight and profession.
The observance also highlighted the urgent need to take the action against the inequalities in income, age, sex, health status, colour, race, occupation, sexual orientation, religion, gender and ethnicity, he said.
Speaking to the gathering at Azuram village, commandant of 44 Assam Rifles, Col Pradeep Kumar said that one should challenge the discrimination faced by women and girls in all their diversity. He also said that the observation of zero discrimination aims to achieve dignity by protecting the rights of people through good political, economic and social policies. He emphasised that there is also an urgent need to pay attention to the requirements of disadvantaged communities.
