Two fire incidents reduce houses, properties to ashes in Kangpokpi

Kangchup Area civil bodies immediately provided aid to the fire victims with basic requirements including rice, utensils, clothing, among others.

Residential houses and properties worth more than lakhs were reportedly reduced to ashes in fire mishaps that occurred in two different locations in Kangpokpi district last week.

No human injury or loss has been reported in both the incidents. A fire suspected to be from an electric short circuit reportedly burnt down the residential house of one Paominthang Chongloi at Ichaigojang village in Saikul sub-division of Kangpokpi district on February 25 at around 8:30 am.

Household properties except few bags of paddy were completely reduced to ashes despite all efforts by the 38 Assam Rifles personnel posted at Saikul, KSO Saikul volunteers and others. The properties and assets burnt by the fire have been estimated approximately Rs 7 lakh.

Former MDC of ADC Sadar Hills, Thangkam Lupheng immediately rushed to the spot and met the victim’s family while providing basic requirements and assistance.

In a similar incident, the residential house of Thangchon Lhouvum of Awlmun village in Kangchup Geljang Sub-Division in Kangpokpi was reduced to cinders on February 27 morning at around 11:30 am.

All household properties and assets including Rs 1.8 lakh in cash were reportedly burnt down by the fire apart from various important documents such as one 2 wheeler RC book, SBI and UBI bank passbook, ATM Cards, Voter Cards, PAN cards, etc.
