Huidrom Rohid Singh, second position holder of the 2020 High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) examination, wants to become a civil service officer as his professional career in the science stream.
Rohid, a student of St John’s English High School, Nambol and only son of proud parents H Premjit Singh and H Sumila Devi from Ishok Mayai Leikai, holds a second position by securing a total of 578 marks which is just 1 mark shy of reaching the marks secured by the 1st position holder.
Sharing his success story to the media, Rohid gives credit to his “school teachers and parents”.
How Rohid prepared for the exam
Rohid used to read for about eight hours during off school days and spent five hours reading his lesson on school days.
“I prefer to read textbooks instead of reading notes as I need to go through all the lessons in my preparation for competing at the national level,” he said, adding most of the questions in civil service examination in science stream are asked from up to the level of class 12 standard.
“To make my lesson clearer, I used to go to private tuitions for all the subjects and my favorite subject is mathematics,” he said.
How Rohid made the best of his leisure time
During his leisure time, Rohid indulge in reading Hindi or watching Hindi action movies to improve his Hindi. He also expressed his love for painting as a hobby.
Rohid said he used his mobile phone only for academic purposes and playing games. Mobile phones may not be good for a student if it is not used properly, he added.
Plans and Ambition
Rohid said he will continue his further studies in science stream in Manipur instead of studying outside the state. He aims to continue his studies at Delhi University after completing his higher secondary examination.
Support from parents
Father of Rohid, H Premjit Singh who is a wireless inspector in the state police department, said that as a parent and being an employee in active service, he has to go through challenges in balancing work. “Both nurturing Rohid for his academic career and discharging my duties are important to me and they can be very challenging,” said Premjit.
To make Rohid free from examination fear, he insisted Rohid to take part in most of the competitive examinations which are conducted under state level.
Hardwork pays
Premjit further said that by hard work and motivation from his school teachers, Rohid is able to secure the 2nd position in HSLC examination, and expressed his gratitude to the school teachers.
