Manipur Works Minister Thongam Biswajit Singh on Monday laid the foundation stone for construction of Akham Bridge in the presence of Education Minister S Rajen Singh at Akham under Lamsang assembly constituency.
Speaking to the media, Biswajit said that the bridge, to be built over the Nambul River, will be carried out using new technology. He said that the bridge will be ‘Composite Bridge Design’ of nearly 20 metres in length and 5.5 metres in width.
The bridge will help in connecting the adjoining areas such as Lambal, Lamsang, Heibongpokpi, Lamlongei and Singda to Lamdeng Khonghampat.
The minister maintained that the bridge once completed will enhance the agricultural and economic activity, lessening the distance between the neighbouring villages. It will also help in overcoming the hardships faced by the localities while commuting, he added.
He assured that efforts will be made to complete the construction of the bridge in time and handed over to the people.
The minister was accompanied by the chief engineer Kh Temba Singh and engineers from the Bridge division.
