The cease work strike by government college teachers demanding implementation of the UGC 7th Pay and Regulation, 2018 carried out under the banner of FEGOCTA entered day 12 on Monday.

Prior to the cease work  strike, college teachers has been taking up different forms of agitation such as sit-in protests in different colleges of the state and mass casual leave since January 28.

Asserting that college teachers trusted and honoured the state cabinet headed by the chief minister, a release issued by FEGOCTA stated that the failure to honour the cabinet decision of implementing the pay scale even after six months and 23 days is making a mockery of the cabinet.

FEGOCTA stated that if the cabinet decision on national policy UGC policy is not implemented for so long, one can imagine the state of affairs of the collegiate education in Manipur. Yet, the teachers are blamed for the present disturbing collegiate education and cease work agitations, it added.

FEGOCTA strongly believes that the implementation of UGC 7th Pay and Regulations 2018 will help in transforming the college education in Manipur, the release stated.

Taking serious note of the cabinet decisions and assurance of the state government and considering the interests of the students, FEGOCTA had previously suspended four agitations.

Stating that verbal assurance and incomplete orders would not resolve the ongoing FEGOCTA’s agitation, it said the only solution to the ongoing cease work agitations is to pass the order as per the cabinet approval of August 6, 2020.

“Forget the pay revision of the college teachers, where is the prestige of the Cabinet and the government? Failure to implement national policy of UGC despite three cabinet approvals is a dark mark in the history of Manipur,” the release added.
