Former MLA of Andro Assembly constituency Th Shyamkumar is looking forward to fight the by-election for Andro MLA seat, following the dismissal of the election petition filed before the High Court of Manipur.
The single bench of the high court, Justice Lanusungkum Jamir on Monday reportedly dismissed the election petition filed against Shyamkumar.
In 2017, former minister and spokesperson of BJP Manipur Pradesh NimaiChand Luwang filed an election petition before the high court against Shyamkumar, alleging that the latter had filed a false affidavit by not disclosing a pending appeal against him in the Delhi High Court in the 2017 Manipur Assembly Election.
Shyamkumar was disqualified from the Manipur Legislative Assembly in 2020 under the 10th Schedule of the Constitution by the Speaker following a directive issued by the Supreme Court. He was elected on a Congress ticket in the last Assembly election. He, however, changed his allegiance immediately and supported the BJP-led coalition government.
“Appealed will be made to the Election Commission of India (ECI) to conduct the by-election of Andro AC similar to the election schedule of Assam,” said Shyamkumar while speaking to the media on Monday at his official residence in Imphal.
Lauding the judgment of the high court, he said, dismissing the election petition clearly proved that he has not cheated the people of Andro AC while filing the election affidavit.
As the people of Andro are living without an MLA for nearly a year, with the landmark judgment, the suffering of the people of Andro AC in living without its representative will end soon, said Shyamkumar.
Assuring that he will continue to serve the public with full dedication, Shyamkumar appealed to the people of Andro AC to continue supporting him to win the vacant MLA seat.
