The Federation of Government College Teachers' Association (FEGOCTA) on Monday submitted a memorandum for the third time to the CM, education minister, chief secretary and commissioner concerned demanding that the 7th UGC Pay and Regulations 2018 must be implemented at the earliest.
The association resolved to resume their suspended agitation if the chief secretary fails to issue an order for said demand.
Speaking to the media in a press conference held on Monday, general secretary, FEGOCTA, N Somorendro Singh said that since December 4, FEGOCTA has been demanding for implementation of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations 2018 in the state. The said demand was approved by the cabinet in principle on November 29, 2019 and chief minister, N Biren Singh announced for final approval on February 11, 2020
Despite exceeding 124 days of its final approval, the chief secretary has failed to issue the implementation order till date. Such irresponsible acts of the chief secretary is highly condemnable, he added.
"Why has the chief secretary failed to honor the decision of cabinet ministers by delaying the national education policy of UGC? Is the chief secretary more powerful than the cabinet," he questioned.
He further said that FEGOCTA will not accept the negligence of the state government in issuing the order of implementation of national education policy of UGC.
He continued that most other government employees are enjoying 7th pay commission. As such, the non implementation of 7th UGC Pay and Regulations 2018 is a form of discrimination towards government college teacher fraternity. The association will not accept such action of the state government, he added.
The association has been urging from the last two years and the approval was also given before COVID-19 outbreak. The government should not further deter issuance of order in the name of COVID-19, he added while appealing to the authority concerned to issue order of the 7th UGC Pay and Regulations 2018 at earliest.
