The Manipur government on Tuesday ordered that the maximum number of people allowed in family gatherings for social, religious and customary ceremonies should be restricted to 50 or less persons strictly.

The size of the gathering for religious, sports, entertainment and culture should be restricted to 100 or less persons strictly, an order issued by chief secretary Rajesh Kumar stated.

The order stated that reports indicated that there is laxity in adherence and enforcement of the Covid Appropriate Behaviour and Standard Operating Procedures and the additional conditions relating to gatherings.

It further directed all deputy commissioners and district superintendents of police to enforce the Manipur Epidemic Diseases (Enforcement of Covid-19 Guidelines) Regulation, 2020 strictly.

Meanwhile, state health director Dr K Rajo stated that air passengers coming from five states namely Maharashtra, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat will be tested for COVID-19 from Wednesday upon arrival at the Bir Tikendrajit International Airport.

The decision to test incoming passengers from the five states was taken considering the resurgence in the number of COVID-19 active cases in the said states, the health director stated.
