No plans for another lockdown in Delhi: CM Arvind Kejriwal

Delhi has the third highest COVID-19 cases in India with 41,182 cases, after Maharashtra with 1,07,958 cases and Tamil Nadu with 44,661, according to the Union Health Ministry.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said that the government has no plan for another lockdown in the national capital, rubbishing speculation after a spike in coronavirus cases.

Kejriwal took to Twitter to quell speculation of a possible lockdown amid the surge in coronavirus cases in Delhi.

"Many people are speculating whether another lockdown in Delhi is being planned. There are no such plans," Kejriwal tweeted.

The clarification from the CM came shortly after an all-party meet chaired by Home Minister Amit Shah to review COVID-19 management in the national capital.

Meanwhile, Delhi government will start conducting 18,000 COVID-19 tests per day by June 20. According to Delhi BJP chief Adesh Gupta, Amit Shah has said that by June 20, the national capital will start conducting 18,000 COVID-19 tests per day.

Speaking to the media after the all-party meeting, the Delhi BJP chief also said that the Home Minister has approved the demand of the BJP to waive off 50 per cent charges on COVID-19 testing.

AAP leader Sanjay Singh, who was also present in the meeting, said that the bed capacity for COVID-19 patients would be increased by 1,900 in state government hospitals while central government hospital will have 2,000 additional beds.
