SSU Singjamei moved into the semi-final beating UTLWO Uripok Tourangbam Leikai by 2-1 goals in the11th Shaheed Manoranjan Singh Memorial CRPF Football Tournament 2021, organised by CRPF 143 Battalion and played at SAI Ground, Takyelpat.
With the win, SSU Singjamei will clash with WAFA Wangoi in the first semi-final of the tournament on February 22 at 1:30 pm.
The UTLWO team showed more aggression in their attack quite early on as they knew that the SSU team were quite a formidable one in their run up attack towards the end. UTLWO team effort paid off in the 15 minute when Apu Kabul Golmei picked up the opening goal for the lead.
However, not to be outshined by its opponent, SSU geared up in hot pursuit for the equaliser and drew parity to the scoreline when Th Surjit snaked through to push home the goal in 23 minute to level 1-1 goal in the first half.
As anticipated, the SSU team relied on quick counter attack and it was Th Surjit who romped home the winning goal in the 55 minute for the victory, enroute to the semi-final. SSU player Kabiraj Sharma got a yellow card from Kh Ranjit for a dangerous tackle in the second half.
Mentioned may be made that Classic Football Academy, Imphal East had already made it to the second semi-final beating NISA Thangmeiband by a solitary goal yesterday.
