An educational Loan Mela for students who wants to pursue higher studies was organised at State Institute for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj training hall, deputy commissioner office complex Imphal east on Friday.

The mela has been organised to create awareness regarding educational loans to the students, deputy commissioner Imphal east Khumanthem Diana Devi said while briefing the media.

It has been realised that the performance of banks in providing educational loans is low in Imphal east district while adding that the main reason could be lack of awareness among the students, she said.

The deputy commissioner also said that representatives of around 10 nationalised banks and private banks present in the mela will speak on the criteria needed to avail the loans.

Diana said, “I am sure that the interest rate of the educational loan will be much lower than those of local money lenders.”

The mela has been organised so that the students will have interaction with the representatives of the banks and ask any queries since it would be hard for the students to go to the banks to get the answers.
