School syllabus curriculum is yet to be finalised. But Manipur Education Minister S Rajen has announced that the state government is trying to implement the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 fully. He was responding to a question raised by opposition MLA Surjakumar Okram during the question and answer session of the ongoing state assembly session on Tuesday. Will the government be able to fully implement NEP 2020 in the state, if not soon enough?
In response to another query raised by Surjakumar, the education minister said the present state BJP-led government has already launched ‘School Fagathalasi’ mission before the implementation of NEP 2020.
Under the mission, 237 primary schools and anganwadi centres have already amalgamated, he said, adding the structure of NEP 2020 will be fully functional within a short period of time in the education sector of Manipur, he added. The policy will be fully functional by 2025 for primary students, he said.
Qualified trained teachers will be recruited and those government primary teachers who do not have certificates yet will be advised to complete training as per recommendation of NEP, 2020, Rajen said.
Earlier in January, during an inspection of schools in Imphal West, Rajen said stressed against absentism by teaching staff in schools. Appropriate action will be taken against those teaching and non-teaching staff of schools and colleges if found absent during school hours.
