The hills tour by All Tribal Students' Union Manipur (ATSUM) that started on November 20, 2020 concluded on Monday at Churachandpur.

As part of the concluding day of the tour, the students’ union had a meeting at BRGF Hall, DC office complex with the DC and DLOs of the district along with leaders from Kuki Students' Organisation (KSO) Churachandpur and Zomi Student Federation (ZSF).

Later, a press meet was called by leaders of ATSUM, KSO and ZSF with the district administration of Churachandpur at KSO office. General secretary of ATSUM, SR Andria Anal said that in their month-long hills tour, they had witnessed many shortcomings in the hills particularly in the sectors of health, education, ADC, land and forest. He continued that Churachandpur district has five higher secondary schools run by the government but only three schools are functioning. He also pointed out the lack of compliance to the ‘Right to Education Act’ which grants free school uniform, mid-day meal, and free textbooks.

Mentioning the health sector, Andria Anal said that the condition in Churachandpur is a complete failure. The district has 11 primary health centres with no staff and proper buildings which often bring several hardships to the public, even leading to many pregnancy deaths. Moreover, the Churachandpur district hospital which will soon be upgraded to medical college has no sufficient specialists, staff, and machinery, he added.
