Demand Committee on Creation of Autonomous District Councils (DCCADCs) Pherzawl, Kamjong, Noney and Tengnoupal districts on Saturday urged the Manipur government not to conduct ADC election for other hill districts before creation of ADCS for the new districts.

DCCADCs urge the state government to carry out a delimitation process for the new districts and that no ADC election be conducted before the delimitation process, a release stated.

The committee also warns of taking up democratic course of agitation along with people of the hill districts concerned, if their demands are not fulfilled, it stated.

The release stated that the committee on January 21 had also filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) to the High Court of Manipur in view of the state’s inaction to empower the new districts and against the delay in carrying out the delimitation process for the newly created districts.

It stated that the committee was formed on January 15, 2021 during a public meeting of the hill areas of Manipur. Asserting that the committee would mount pressure upon the state government for creation of ADCs for the new districts, the release added that Kangpokpi (Sadar Hills) District Council was created before it became a district under District Council Act, 1971.
